Winter Fun in Boise

Last night, Matt took Owen to the hill to go snowboarding. Over the past 3 days, Bogus Basin received 22 inches of fresh powder. If anything motivates Matt, it is the words fresh snow. Owen was a little reluctant and kept complaining that he did not want to snowboard. This was probably due from him using so much energy at a birthday party earlier. I digress. When Matt described the powder that is as high as Owen's thighs...he became a little bit interested. He finally decided to go up when he found out that he had his own water bottle, which meant that he was not sharing with DAD. This apparently is a deal sealer for a 5 year old.

Owen has been learning technique all year. He started by working on edges (heal and toe) for the first couple of times, and finally has learned to turn. Matt has been dancing with Owen down the mountain all year. Owen did some runs by himself, and from what Matt told me, "he was great."

I know that it was hard for Matt to spend most of his time with his son, rather than cruising down the hill with all of the fresh snow. It was been a great time for Matt and Owen to spend time together on the hill. I reminded Matt that before long Owen will be heading off on runs with him and actually keeping up. He needs to just enjoy this time while he is teaching him.

Owen thoroughly enjoyed his time on the mountain with Dad. Of course, the reward for a hard day on the mountain is a hot bath by himself (another deal sealer for this 5 year old). I asked him how much he enjoyed it while he was bathing and his response was "it was great to go down the run piggie back with Dad." They had a great time.

The Boys

Today the boys thought that playing superheros was a great idea. What starts out as a good idea in the Payn house usually ends with someone getting hurt. Owen decided that he wanted to be Batman with a Light Saber, which left Seth to be Spiderman with a Light Saber. Superheros had taken over the house and then Seth started crying. It seems that Batman was bigger, stronger, and more skilled with his Light Saber then Spiderman, which in turn upset him. It is hard to be the younger brother.

It is funny to see the two boys interact and many times I have found myself wondering why God has blessed me with boys. Really, I don't know much about boys since I grew up with my younger sister. We spent most of our time playing with dolls, cooking or playing grocery store. I did not like wrestling, or even playing superheros. I find that the boys just enjoy being boys. I don't know that I fully understand them yet, but I know that they are the best of friends. I am learning to let our house be filled with superheros, sword fighting, wrestling and noise.

I am truly thankful for my two little boys. Right now I am listening to them sleep. Owen is sleeping on the couch and Seth is upstairs. And yes I can hear Seth breathing loudly, as he does each day, from downstairs.

I am not sure what I am going to blog, but I hope that each time that I do you will find some laughter. We are so thankful for each person that God has blessed us with in life. May your day be filled with small glimpses of him.
